Kyle, Tyler and David Eaton came out for a pheasant hunt with their buddy Casey Simmons. Christmas Eve was a little warm and breezy so the pheasants I set in the Cabin Field were on the move early. They were still able to get enough for Christmas dinner for their whole family.
Michael Daniels came out with his buddy Jacob Sitze and his German Shorthair, Journey for a pheasant hunt. I placed some birds around the south Tinkerfarm Field, in the milo strips and prairie edges and Journey found them all.
Dennis and Jacob Mosbacher came out to hunt some pheasant and chukar after Christmas. Colton Wilkins brought out his English Setter, Bama and shorthair, Preacher to find the birds in the milo strips in the East Bottom. They pretty much cleaned up the field, leaving only a bird for seed.
Joe and MaryAnn Belongia came out with Dan Watkins and Mary Higgs for a pheasant hunt. Travis Devall came out with his two setters, Patches and Zip to find the birds I stashed in the Clubhouse Field on a finally dry, but breezy afternoon. They stayed out there for a while and came back with almost all their birds.
Chip Eaton and Mike Bond came out for a pheasant hunt just before Chirstmas. Colton Wilkins brought his English Setter, Bama and shorthair, Preacher to find the birds in the Clubhouse Field. About an hour in to the hunt there was a nice rain shower, which got the birds on the move and washed away their scent. So enter Mac and Doo to help out with the hunt and get Chip and Mike a few more chances at pheasant.
John Cavaletto brought out his English Pointer, Burl to find some pheasant, chukar and quail for his friend Ben Jackson. First they started on the pheasant and chukar I stashed in the Clubhouse Field, then on to a couple quail coveys. Burl handled the big field well by himself, finding all the birds, plus some extra.
Joe Mitterer brought out his new German Shorthair, Gracie for his first quail hunt along with friend Carl Dixon and his Braque, Belle. I set some quail and chukar singles all around the prairie in the South Tinkerfarm Field and the pair worked through them. The dogs found all the birds and had to find several more than once, some good work for Gracie.
Steve Sanders got to trade is guiding hat for a shotgun when his son, Travis and grandson, Tyson came up from Florida for a Christmas quail and chukar hunt. I snuck out to the Cabin Field just in time to see the last chukar rise and a double hit by the trio.
Larry Jones came out with his family, Brian and Caleb Lewis and Shawn Hayes to hunt some quail with his Brittany, King. I set out some quail coveys in the Cabin Field and brought my setter, Doo to help find the birds. King and Doo worked well together and they found all the birds a returned with most, only a couple escaping to the timber.
Jim Self came out to hunt some pheasant and chukar. Steve Sanders brought out his pointers, Rebel and Sue to find the birds I stashed around the Clubhouse Field. As usual the pointers did a nice job giving Jim plenty of opportunities and Jim did his job bringing back the game.
