Chad, Justin and Cameron Lowry came out for an upland hunt. They brought out their young setter, Meg, to get her on some birds and she got into a bunch. Lots of good experiences and a chance to take a few birds home for dinner.

I picked a nice day for Sandy Run’s January Continental Pheasant Shoot. Sunny, almost 70 with not too much wind, not bad for January. After all the hunters got in place we threw 252 pheasants for them to blast. Lots of flying, lots of shooting, some birds biting the dust. The shooters knocked down 142 on the shoot. After some BBQ pulled pork, baked beans, mac salad and chips for lunch, some of us went back to clean up and came back with another 45 pheasants. Non-stop shooting in the video.
Stan, Mike, Ben and Kyle Kuhns got together for their annual business meeting to discuss their hog operation with their veterinarians, Charlie Durbin and Courtney Daum. I prepared some biscuits and gravy (pork sausage included), eggs and bacon for their breakfast meeting and headed off with the two guides, Jeff Powell and Steve Sanders to set their birds. Winds were gusting over 30 mph so we tucked some pheasant, quail and chukar around the western edge of the Cabin Field and then some more in the East Bottom. Even with the blustery conditions they were able to find and knock down most of their birds.
Bill Warix and Alan Feezel snuck out to do a pheasant hunt with their shorthairs, Whip and Harley. The four of them had a good time hunitng the birds I stashed in the Clubhouse Field.
Brad Fanale came down from Lincoln with his buddy, J.D. Moore to hunt some quail and pheasant. I set some birds in the Clubhouse Field and Sol and Mac came out to find them for Brad and J.D. Some nice rooster and covey rises in this video. Doo and Ava came out to help clean up the stragglers. Plenty of action and a pile of birds to take home.
Brian Westendorf set up a hunt for his grandson, Thacker Cripe. This was one of Thacker’s first times in the upland field with a gun, so I decided some big targets like pheasant and chukar would be best. I set some out in the Clubhouse Field and got Sol out to the kennel to start the hunt. Then I got Doo and Ava to find the birds spread out around the field. Thacker had some nice shots, maybe better than Grandpa.
David Weber came out with his buddies, Craig Moser and Charlie Herzog for a quail hunt. I set some quail coveys in the Clubhouse Field and they set off with a setter and a couple of labs to hunt the birds. They had a lot of nice rises and chasing quail around the timber edges, nice hunt.
Wayne Reichert set up an upland bird hunt for his two boys, Isaac and Noah. I filled the Clubhouse Field with pheasant, chukar and quail and got Sol and Mac out to find them. After harvesting some and spreading the rest around the field and a little warm up, I got out Doo and Ava to find the remaining birds. Lots of action and a bunch of shooting in this video.
Clint Rybak brought out his lab, Barkley and his friend, Phil Hocher for a pheasant hunt. Phil brought his new Boykin Spaniel, Jake, to get in on the action. We jumped a couple of pheasants on our way down to the East Bottom to hunt the pheasant in the milo strips. Good weather and a little snow, some good dog work made for a nice day in the field.
Gary McMillin came down to get his two shorthairs, Gabby and Gizmo out for their first pheasant hunt of the season. He picked a nice day, cold, light wind and a couple inches of snow. Gabby and Gizmo did a nice job finding the birds and Gary came back with most.
