Bill, Alan and Randy w/ Whip Quail and Phesant Hunt

Bill Warix brought out his German Shorthaired Pointer pup, Whip, for a quail and pheasant hunt.  Alan Feezel and Randy Gray came along to help with the harvest.  They picked a windy, drizzly, spring day, so we hunted for pheasants first, before the wind scattered them throughout the Clubhouse Field.  Sol came out to help Whip on the first run through the field. The dogs found the birds, with the hunters getting all the pheasants and some nice rises on quail mini-coveys.  Mac and Doo came out to help Whip mop up the remaining quail, one nice day in the field.

Karen’s First Quail Hunt w/ Kevin, Ina and Penny

Karen Quinlan switched from hunting photographer to huntress for her first quail hunt, trading her Canon SLR for a Browning A5 20 gauge shotgun.  Kevin Diekroeger and Karen, along with Ina and Penny, went after some mini-coveys of quail in the Clubhouse Field.  The coveys rose in the field  and headed for the pasture timber line.  Plenty of singles action in the woods, Karen had a lot of opportunities and had a great first hunt experience.

Aaron, Bob, Brent and Jim Upland Bird Hunt

Aaron Burlingame set up a pheasant, chukar and quail hunt for his friends Bob and Brent Richars and Jim Gabriel.  They picked a beautiful, spring day with a nice breeze for Brent’s first upland hunt.  The wind and warm weather got the birds up and running around the Clubhouse Field.  Curly got first shot at finding the birds, then Mac and Sol to find the leftovers.  Curly and Doo did the final cleanup.  Some good shooting and the group got almost all their quail and chukar and the most of the pheasants that gave them a sporting chance.

Mike, Burl and Larry English Pointers in Action Quail Hunt

Mike Beckett set up a quail hunt with Larry Jones and Burl Brumfield.  They both brought their English Pointers, Bill and Julie and Buck, Dot, Hank and Lucy, respectively.  A couple of covey of quail were stocked in the Clubhouse Field and Bill, Julie, Buck and Dot got the call for the first run.  After a short break, Hank and Lucy replaced, Buck and Dot and the four pointers had a chance to find a couple more quail coveys.  The last brace even found a bonus rooster that didn’t stand a chance.  Check out the dog work in this video.

Terry, Brian and Sadie Quail Hunt

Terry and Brian Knebel, brought out Sadie, the German Shorthaired Pointer for a quail hunt.  Sadie is fresh off the disabled list after foot surgery and ran like a pup to start the hunt.   I stocked some mini-coveys of quail throughout the Clubhouse and Pasture fields and Sadie found them all.  Sadie got a little help from Mac and Doo to track down the singles.  Beautiful day for a hunt with a high around 35 and little wind, better than any day working.

Charlie and Brad w/ Lincoln and Reagan Chukar and Pheasant Hunt

Charlie and Brad Diecker brought out Reagan and Lincoln, Brittany and English Pointer, for  a chukar and pheasant hunt.  Excessive wind at the beginning led to an all chukar start.  Lincoln and Reagan led the hunters through the double and triple chukar sets and as the wind slacked slightly I added some pheasants to the hunt.  Even in the less than ideal conditions, Charlie and Brad got their pheasants, most of their chukars and picked up a quail that almost refused to get out from under the corn crib.

Gary, Roxie and Neysa w/ Gabby and Gizmo Upland Bird Hunt

Gary McMillan came out with his two German Shorthairs, Gabby and Gizmo, and two friends Roxie Dotson and Neysa Downs.  They picked a cold, blustery day to chase some pheasants, chukar, and quail around the Clubhouse Field.  Due to the 30+ mph winds we put out the birds in a couple of batches to keep the pheasants from doing their disappearing act.  The plan worked well and so did the dogs.  The hunters had plenty of opportunities and all got more than a couple of birds for dinner.

Jim, Tim and CJ Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Jim Zeigler set up a pheasant and chukar hunt for his son Tim and friend CJ Goldstein.  I brought out Curly, a German Wirehaired Pointer to start the hunt in the Clubhouse Field, she found the birds and the hunters knocked ’em down.  After the birds got spread throughout the farm, a pair of English Setters, Mac and Doo, got the job to track down the escapees.  At the end of a beautiful, warm, sunny, spring hunt the Zeiglers and CJ ended up with almost all their birds.

Mark and Wyatt Upland Bird Hunt

Mark Nitsche gave his son Wyatt an overnight hunt for his birthday.  After an evening around the fireplace watching hunting shows and discussing the next day’s hunt, Wyatt was ready for his upland bird hunt birthday gift.  Steve Sanders brought out his English Setter, E and two English Pointers, Sue and Rose to do the guiding.  A beautiful warm day got the pheasants moving around the Clubhouse Field, but the dogs did their job and Mark and Wyatt were able to knock down some pheasant, quail and chukar.   Pretty sure Wyatt will tell you the best birthday present ever.
