Rich and Peggy Mason brought out their young brittany, Mason out for a couple hunts in April to finish off the upland season. For the first hunt, Mason went after some chukar and scored a perfect 7 for 7. Couple weeks later Rich and Mason went 6 for 7 on pheasant on a tough, breezy hot spring day, getting better every hunt.
Greg Presson came out with his lab, Jake and buddy Jeremy Wolf to hunt some pheasant and chukar. The south end of the Tinkerfarm still had some nice cover on April 2nd, so they headed down to find the birds in the milo, prairie strips and fencerows. Jake did a fine job with only a couple of pheasants getting away.
Joe Mitterer and Carl Dixon came out with Joe’s shorthair, Belle to hunt some quail and chukar. This is Belle’s first full season hunting birds and she is coming along splendidly. I got out to record a bit of the hunt, but the trio only let one quail get away.
John McIntosh came down with his you Setter, Binks to hunt some more quail. I set out a few small 3 bird coveys in the Clubhouse Field and the Binks found them all. Little steadier and even a retrieve or two for the young pup.
Jeff Zenthoeffer and Harlen Lucas came out for one last upland bird hunt of the season. They did it right putting out a bunch of birds for Jeff Powell and his dogs to find in the Clubhouse Field. Nice hunt for April, lots of action on this video.
Gary and Susan McMillin brought out their two shorthairs, Gabby and Gizmo out for one last pheasant of the season. Gary and Susan picked a nice last morning to hunt and the dogs were on. Good way to end a nice season in the field.
Kevin Diekroeger came over to call a gobbler in for me. We took care of the turkey business early and headed out to hunt some quail. I set out some nice sized coveys around the Clubhouse Field and Ina and Penny came out to find them. I brought a box of shells and ran out, lots of fun shooting, in the open and in the timber. Awesome day.
Adam Rea set up a hunt for his family and friend Scott Gagliardi. Some of the hunters had Travis Devall and the rest had Steve Sanders to guide their hunts. They did alright, coming back with almost all their pheasant and picking up a couple of bonus quail.
Larry Jones and Jimmy Robinson came out to hunt some quail with their pointer, Ike and brittany, King. I set some mini quail coveys around the old Tinkerfarm pond and they worked the prairie edges and then the timbered fencerows hunting the singles. Really nice work by the dogs and some fun woods shooting too.
Mushroom Fest 2017 will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 6 pm at the Sonnemann Cabin, one mile south of the Sandy Run Clubhouse. Come and enjoy some mushrooms, crawfish, corn, tators, chicken, fish and more. Bring and chair, what ever you like to drink, a couple of shrooms and a dish if you want. Always a great party, chance to meet other hunters and enjoy some awesome food.
