Bob and Nathan Touchette came out to hunt some pheasants. I set out some birds in the Clubhouse Field and got Sol and Mac out to start the hunt. It was a warm day and the birds were on the move early, so after getting chances at most I traded out dogs and we went back out to clean up the runners. They almost got them all, just leaving one hen for seed.
Brian Cox came out with his friends, J.D. Gelsinger and Clayton Aderman for a pheasant and chukar hunt. I set out the birds in the South Tinkerfarm Field and brought out Ava and Sol to find them. The dogs found all the birds and the hunters knocked them all down, so we went on find some quail. There were some little coveys and singles in the timber around the old pond and with a lot of woods shooting they were able to harvest some.
Randy Schmitt invited out ten friends to come out and hunt some quail. They split up into four different fields, and they got out their shorthairs and one lone setter to hunt up the quail coveys, doubles and singles I set out in the prairie and milo. I got out to get a little video from the hunt in the Clubhouse Field. The dogs did a good job finding the birds that were flying like little rockets on a nice spring morning.
Randy and Jody Perkins came down to run their setter, Jesse on some quail and chukar. They spent a couple of beautiful mornings in the Clubhouse Field chasing around the birds. Jesse did a good job finding the birds and Randy knocked down nearly all.
Kevin Diekroeger brought out his two dogs, Ina and Penny, to hunt some quail. I set out some nice sized coveys in the Pasture Field and grabbed my new shotgun to try it out on some quail. The knocked down two on the first rise, good way to break in the new gun. The rest of the hunt was almost all timber shooting. Lots of lead flying and some birds going down, really fun hunt.
Trent Yokely brought out his young brittany Duke out for some work on some pheasant. We tried to hide from the wind down in the East Bottom Field, but it still found us and got the pheasant up and moving. After hunting the pheasant, I added in a few chukar to give Duke a few more points on birds that weren’t running.
Bob Dasenbrock came out with his friend Clint Elam and his setter, Libby for a quail and chukar hunt. They really cleaned up the birds from the Clubhouse Field, they came back with a couple extra quail and a few pheasants, awesome hunt.
Charlie Durbin set up a hunt with his friends, Darrell Ahlf and Mike Kuhns. Darrell brought along his setter, Candy to find the quail and chukar in the Clubhouse Field. Candy did a nice job finding the coveys and chukar doubles, but is was a beautiful, warm, spring afternoon so I got Ava and Doo out of the kennel to help clean up on the singles.
Trent Yokely brought out his new brittany, Duke, along with his friend Brian Cox to get on some pheasant and chukar. Lane Cox came along to make sure they all did the hunting right. Duke did a nice job finding the birds I spread around the East Bottom and they came back with most.
Greg Presson, Duffy Cleland, Helen Edwards and Ryan Kelley came out to run their young chocolate lab on some pheasant and chukar. I set their birds in the milo strips in the East Bottom to give the young lab her best chance to find and flush all the birds. She did such a good job, they decided to do the hunt twice.
