Gary McMillin came out with his friend Mark Brown for a pheasant and chukar hunt. I stocked the Clubhouse Field with birds and Gary got his two german shorthairs, Gizmo and Gabby, out for the hunt. The pheasants were holding a little tighter than the day before, but they were still a challenge. The chukar mostly held tight, but at least one escaped taking wing out of the late season cover.
Louis and Wayne, Pheasant and Chukar Hunt
Wayne Ingram and Louis Carter finally got their schedules together for another pheasant and chukar hunt. Greg Ireland brought out Daisy, the amazing pound puppy, to do the guiding. I filled the Pasture Field with pheasant and chukar and Daisy found them all. I think one hen pheasant eluded the group, but they came back with an extra chukar to make up for her.
Gary, Rob and Joe w/Gizmo and Gabby Pheasant and Chukar Hunt
Gary McMillin came back with his two friends, Joe Smith and Rob Prange for another pheasant and chukar hunt. This time I set them up in the Clubhouse Field so Gary’s German Shorthairs could find the birds. The pheasants weren’t playing fair, sometimes running and flying ahead of the dogs. But the chukar behaved and the dogs did a great job and they came back with all their pheasants and most of their chukars.
Ray and Sean, Upland Bird Hunt
Ray and Sean Scholes set up a hunt for some pheasant, quail and chukar. Jeff Powell brought out his brittanys and German Shorthair to find and point the birds I set out in the Cabin Field. The pheasants were on the move in the warm, spring morning, but gave the hunters some opportunities along with the chukar and quail.
Joe, Josh and Kristen, Pheasant and Quail Hunt
Joe and Josh Lawson came out for a pheasant and quail hunt. Josh brought along his friend Kristen Hamman to do some clay pigeon shooting and walk along for the bird hunt. Steve Sanders brought his English pointers, Sue and Rose to do the guiding over in the milo strips at the Tinkerfarm. The afternoon got warm and the pheasants got running but they still scored most of their birds.
Brien, John and Rex Quail Hunt
Brien Guy came out with his buddy, John Perry and English Pointer, Rex for a quail hunt. I placed some quail coveys over in the Cabin Field in the prairie strip around a wooded point and they spent the afternoon busting the coveys and chasing quail in and out of the timber. Rex had some nice, stylish points.
Dan and Cleatus w/Missy, Grace, Millie and Flirt Quail Hunt
Dan Crunk brought out two of his pointers, Millie and Flirt and Cleatus Roy brought out his two, Missy and his new pup, Grace. I set some quail in the Clubhouse Field and Missy and Grace got a chance at the first batch. Grace did a great job, getting some points, backs and a retrieve, no pressure on her, just a fun time chasing birds. Millie and Flirt were on for the second batch and Dan and Cleatus came back with most of their birds.
Chris and Tim w/Nitro and Jetta Quail Hunt
Chris Lewis came out with his friend Tim Cincotta to work his German Shorthaired pointers on some quail. Chris brought the old veteran, Nitro and his new pup, Jetta to get some late season bird action. I put a couple of quail mini-coveys in the Clubhouse Field and Nitro and Jetta found them and worked the singles. Tim’s semi-auto turned into a single shot making for a lot of points and extra dog work. Great job by Jetta for her first time in the big field.
Gary, Joe and Rob w/Gabby and Gizmo Pheasant and Chukar Hunt
Gary McMillin set up a pheasant and chukar hunt for his two friends, Rob Prange and Joe Smith. I set out their birds in the Cabin Field, and Gary’s two German Shorthaired Pointers, Gabby and Gizmo cruised the prairie lined timber edges for their quarry. The group did well with only a couple of pheasant escaping into the warm, sunny woods.
Bill and Tony w/Whip and Lady Pheasant Hunt
Bill and Tony Warix came out on a beautiful, spring afternoon for a pheasant hunt. Not ideal conditions for pheasants but I hid some pheasants in the clubhouse field for their German Shorthaired Pointers, Whip and pup Lady, to find. The birds were up and moving and gave only a few chances for harvest.
