Bob, Nathan, Dennis and Terry w/Nate Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Bob Touchette set up a pheasant and chukar hunt for his son, Nathan and buddies Dennis and Terry Asher.  Bob borrowed his friend’s German Shorthaired Pointer, Nate to find the birds.  I set out some birds and Nathan headed out on his first upland bird hunt.  Nate did a great job finding and pointing the birds and after a few rises the hunters got a bead on the birds with Nathan getting his first rooster pheasant.

Gary and Neysa Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Gary McMillin brought his friend Neysa Downs and his two German Shorthaired Pointers, Gabby and Gizmo for a pheasant and chukar hunt.  I filled the Clubhouse Field with birds and Gabby and Gizmo headed out to find them.  The warm sunny weather had the pheasants and some of the chukar up and running around.  Gabby and Gizmo were able to track down most of the scattered birds, leading to some interesting shooting situations.

Russ and Jared w/Curly and Mac Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Russ and Jared Houberg came out for a pheasant and chukar on a beautiful but muddy Saturday.  I found some dry spots to stash some pheasant and chukar in the Pasture Field and Mac and Curly set out to find them.   This was only Jared’s second time upland bird hunting and his first successful one.  He knocked down a pheasant and a couple of chukar as the father and son combo got almost all their birds.

Alan and Harley Pheasant Hunt

Alan Feezel came out with his German Shorthair pup, Harley to get some work on some pheasants.   I set out a few in the Clubhouse Field and Harley found them all.  He even found a rooster that got away a second time, but couldn’t come up with it a third, Alan will have to take the blame for missing that bird.

Dan, Millie and Flirt Quail Hunt

Dan Crunk came out for a quick workout for his two English Pointers, Millie and Flirt.  I set out some quail singles in the Clubhouse Field for the dogs to work.  First was Millie, then Flirt, then the pair.  They did a great job finding and pointing and ended up a couple extra quail.

Terry, Roger, Brad and Sadie Quail Hunt

Terry Knebel came out with his friends, Roger Well and Brad Bickhaus for a quail hunt.  Terry enjoys hunting his German Shorthair pointer in the milo strips at the Tinkerfarm Field so I set some coveys out in the driest spots I could find in the melting snow.  The quail did well, not running as much with the wet ground and flying out the thick milo.  We ran into a bunch of extras looking for some birds that flew into thicker cover.  Sadie did a great job and the guys got all but one of their birds.

Bill and Mike Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Bill Miller got a nice Christmas present, a guided hunt at Sandy Run Hunt Co.  He brought along his buddy, Mike McDowell to share the day and help with the harvest.  I set some birds in the Clubhouse Field and got my German Wirehaired Pointer, Curly out for our initial pass.  The rooster pheasants were tough, running into the foggy, fencerow edges to be hunted later.  Most of the chukar and hen pheasant were more cooperative and gave us some nice shooting opportunities.  English Setters, Mac and Doo got to help on the second round finding both roosters in the fencerows and timber.  One leftover chukar alluded us flying off into the mist.

Al and Nick w/ Sue and Vince Quail Hunt

Al and Nick Gironda came down for a relaxing weekend and hunt a few quail.  Steve Sanders brought out a couple of English Pointers, Sue and Vince to find the coveys I stashed around the Clubhouse Field.  They had a nice hunt spending about three hours chasing quail and coming back with a nice pile of birds. I cooked up some babyback ribs for dinner and they enjoyed the clubhouse fire throughout the evening.

Chris, Mike and Bruce w/ Dora and Bear Pheasant Hunt

Chris Champlin set up a pheasant hunt for his buddies Mike Moore and Bruce Bowermaster.  Chris and Bruce brought along their labs, Bear and Dora to do the finding and flushing.  The milo strips at the north end of the Tinkerfarm Field is an excellent spot for flushing dogs hunting pheasants so I filled the rows with roosters and some hens.  They had a great time, got almost all their birds and even picked up a few quail that were out munching on milo in the icy snow.
