Courtney Daum came out with her brother Josh and boyfriend Ryan Keppler to hunt some pheasant, chukar and quail. They picked one of the few snowy mornings, but Jeff Powell along with his setter, brittany and cocker were up to the task. The dogs did a nice job finding, pointing and flushing the birds from the South Tinkerfarm Field.
Matt and Mark Ritter brought their daughters, Macie and Cecelia out to hunt some pheasant and chukar. Travis Devall got to bring his dogs out to the Cabin Field to find the birds for the group. Damp afternoon, but the birds busted out of the cover and the girls did a nice job knocking them down.
Harlen Lucas set up a hunt for his buddies, Jeff Zenhoeffer, Joe Zahn and Jon Lamb. They picked a snowy morning back in February and I chose the milo and prairie strips on the north side of the Cabin Field as nice place hunt all the pheasant, chukar and quail they wanted to shoot. Travis Devall used his trio of dogs to find and point the birds. Some really nice quail covey rises and some loud roosters, check it out.
Wil Bryant set up an all day upland bird hunt bird hunt for his friends. Sam Stock got to take out, Mac, Ava and Sol into the snowy Clubhouse Field for the morning hunt. Lots of shooting, they picked up some extra pheasant and left some quail. Back to the Clubhouse to enjoy my chili for lunch. Jud Wilkins took them back out to the Clubhouse Field with his dogs, Bama and Preacher. They still found extra pheasant in the afternoon hunt and brought back most of their quail for a extremely wet field.
Dave and Brad Compagni came over to hunt some quail and pheasant. Greg Ireland brought out Daisy to find the bird in the Clubhouse Field. After some nice rises and shooting, I got Sol and Ava out to point the scattered birds. Nice hunt and a fun afternoon in the field.
Dale and Susan Phillips set up a pheasant hunt for their friends, Tim Lillie, Adam Mercer, Tyler Moorehead and Jon Plumb. Dale brought his wirehair, Franklin to find the birds in the Clubhouse Field. Sol and Ava gave Franklin some backup after a bit in the big field and a bunch of big birds.
Bill Bockhus and Jerome Themig along with lab, Maggie got together for a pheasant hunt. For this hunt, the trio trounced through the north Tinkerfarm milo strips flushing out the big birds. Beautiful day to be in the field and they came back with all but one rooster.
Bud Harold came over with his pointer Nitro for some quail hunting. I spent an enjoyable morning in the Clubhouse Field as Nitro found the coveys and then singles around the prairie. Check out the shooting, not sure Bud ever missed and got several doubles.
The Central Prairie Field Trial Club will be holding its spring trial here in the Sandy Run Hunt Co. fields on Saturday March 31, 2018.
If you have a good hunting dog, you should consider entering in the Amateur Gun Dog Trial. The dogs in this trial run the course with another dog, need to be able to find birds, back dogs on point and hold their point until the bird flushes. Sounds like your dog can do that easy enough, bring him out, maybe you will get one of mine in a brace.
If you are looking for hunting dogs and puppies, you can make some contacts with some folks who know where there are some of the nicest hunting dogs for sale or on the way. Plus the trials give anyone a chance to see some classy looking dogs in action. Bring your horse, ATV or walking shoes to be part of the gallery.

Whitey Willms set up a hunt for Dustin Eccles, Todd Parke, Scott Spencer and Bob Fullar. Steve Sanders took a couple to the south end of the Cabin Field and Travis Devall took the remainder to the prairie and milo strips on the north end. Some nice dog work and good shooting for both groups.
