Stan Soldner brought out his young setter, Pearl and Brien Guy, his pointer Rex for a quail hunt. I set some coveys around the Cabin Field so they could watch their dogs work the birds. The coveys held fairly well and the dogs had some nice points. They knocked down some birds and got the dogs some needed bird work for a fun day in the field.
Flip is a female English Setter, about 5 months old and is the granddaughter of my setter, Ava. She has had a little bit of work on birds and is doing great. Running full blast she turns around on a dime to point a quail hidden in the weeds by the post. Be the first one to call and she can be yours for $500. 618 292 8680
Travis and Dean Devall brought out their new pointers for a little quail work. I set out some single quail to warm up Cy and then a few more for Sadie. Then we got out all the dogs to hunt a few small coveys in the pasture. Great fun and some nice work, making some new bird dogs.
Jason Blakemore and Andy Royer came out for a pheasant hunt. Steve Sanders brought out his English Pointers to find the birds I set out in the Clubhouse Field. I guess the pheasants put on their track shoes, because they said they were running. I showed up just in time to film the downing of a stray chukar. They hunted the field and pasture hard, wore out some dogs and came back with most of their birds.
Charlie and Brad Diecker came out for a pheasant and chukar hunt. Mark Pottorff brought out his Golden Retrievers, Star and Major, to flush the birds from the milo strips at the north end of the Tinkerfarm Field. If they didn’t get them all it was close, nice hunt and chance to walk off some Thanksgiving turkey.
CJ Spener set up his annual post-Thanksgiving hunt for several of his family members. Steve Sanders came up with his pointers to guide for the pheasant, chukar and quail I set out in the Cabin Field. They had some nice quail rises, getting the whole lot of them shooting at once. The pheasant and chukar didn’t stand much of a chance with the good dogs and experienced hunters.
Michael Williamson came out with his father, Ray and son, Evan, and German shorthair, Ranger for an upland bird hunt. I set out some pheasant, chukar and quail in the north end of the Tinkerfarm Field. The first rooster pheasant didn’t play fair, jumping up ahead and then disappearing into a thick fencerow. But Ranger was able to work the rest of the birds and gave the hunters some good wingshots.
Shaun and Dustin Lance came out with Brian Clark on Thanksgiving morning for a pheasant hunt. The wet field had the pheasants moving around, but Remmington and Skeeter tracked them down and with nice quick shooting they came back with most.
Jud Wilkins set up a hunt for a bunch of his family and friends, Hunter, Colton, and Sidney Wilkins, Richard and Andra Malone, and Cole Armstrong. I filled the Clubhouse Field and pasture with birds and Jud got his setter, Bama and German shorthair, Preacher out to find the birds. Lots of fun and some good shooting. Not sure how some chukar got away, but they made up for a lost double, when they nail all the chukar on a three bird rise and the rooster pheasant that got flushed as the last chukar fell.
Rich and Richard Berry came out for a pre-Thanksgiving upland bird hunt. Greg Ireland came out with Daisy to do the guiding. The wet weather kept the pheasants running, the chukars stayed paired up and ready to fly and the quail hid as well as they could from the water drops and pellets. Daisy found them all and there was a lot of action for the hunters.
