Bob and Ricky First Upland Bird Hunt

Bob and Ricky Alverez came out for their first upland bird hunt.  We headed out to the Clubhouse Field with Sol and Mac to find the birds.  Ricky looked like a pro on the first pheasants that got up, but both hunters were a little shocked by the first quail covey rise.  The two hunters did well, so we put out some more birds and switched dogs to Curly and Doo.   We chased birds all over the field, through the pasture and across the bottoms to Sandy Run.  First time hunt was excellent, getting most of their birds, and already scheduled their next outing.

Steve, Nathan and Mitch Upland Bird Hunt

Steve Henna came out for an upland bird hunt with his son Nathan and son-in-law, Mitch Ashbaugh.  The Clubhouse Field was available so I loaded the field with pheasant, quail and chukar and got Curly out to start the hunt.  We had some nice pheasant rises and chukar doubles, not sure if they were all ready for the quail coveys, but they got most of their birds.  Dwayne Ritchey finished guiding the hunt with Mac and Doo and they were able to get six pheasants by the end, pretty good for only putting out three.

John and Larry w/Burl and McCallister Quail Hunt

John Cavaletto and his Pointer, Burl brought out his friend Larry Ackerman, who brought his German Shorthair, McCallister for a quail hunt.  I put out some mini-coveys of quail in the Clubhouse Field and Burl and McCallister set out to find them.  The birds did their job with some nice rises and the hunters knocked them down.  They got plenty of points and both dogs hunted well together honoring each other and sharing retrieves.

Mike and Drake Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Mike and Drake Dokey came out for a pheasant and chukar hunt.  I stocked the Clubhouse Field and roused Curly for the hunt.  Mike and Drake made no waste of the shells knocking down the first eight birds with eight shots.  It wasn’t and until we went searching for a wayward chukar with the Setters, Yadi and Doo that Drake finally missed with a shot on a hen that got up wild.

Ron, Ray and Max Quail Hunt

Ron Gibbons hosted a couple of quail hunts for his brother Ray over the holiday week.  Ron’s young English Setter, Max, got to hunt quail in the Clubhouse Field on Saturday and then over to the Cabin Field for a Quail Hunt on Monday, lucky dog.  And he and the hunters did a great job coming back with more birds than I put out Monday.

Randy and Jesse Quail Hunt

Randy Perkins came out to run his English Setter, Jesse, one more time over his holiday break.   I set out some small coveys of quail in the Clubhouse Field and the pair went to hunt.  Jesse had some nice points and Randy had a least one double on the rise.  They eventually came back with all their quail and a chukar to spare.

Rusty, Aaron, Nick and Ethan Upland Bird Hunt

Rusty and Aaron Conner came out with their friends Nick Burrus and Ethan Fitzwilliam for an upland bird hunt.  Greg Ireland brought out Daisy to do the guiding and I stocked the Clubhouse Field with a bunch of pheasants, quail and chukar.  Daisy and the hunters made easy work of most of the birds, but after a few hours, I brought out Mac and Doo to help find and clean up the few remainders.

Bill, Alan and Randy w/ Whip and Harley Quail and Pheasant Hunt

Alan Feezel brought out his new German Shorthair pup, Harley for his first hunt.  Bill Warix brought his Shorthair, Whip along with friend, Randy Gray.  Harley had a blast finding and chasing quail singles in the prairie strips.  Then he got to go along with Whip and the rest chasing pheasants through the milo strips at the north end of the Tinkerfarm.

Kermit, Nick and Jacob Quail Hunt

Kermit and Nick Doelling brought out their Weimaraner, Jacob for a quail hunt.  I put out some singles and doubles in the Cabin Field and the trio made the trek around to find them.    Jacob got a late start hunting and was not quite sure about the shooting, but loved the walk around the field on a nice day.

Dwayne, Jon, Amos and Dave Upland Bird Hunt

Dwayne Ritchey set up an upland bird hunt for his buddies, Amos Boggs, Jon Washburn and Dave Stokes.  I stocked the Clubhouse Field with pheasant, chukar doubles and quail coveys and we all headed out with Curly and Mac to hunt.  They picked a nice day and the birds and dogs cooperated to have good hunt.  Dave Stokes earned his new name, “The Cock Killer”, as rooster pheasants kept trying to escape his direction with no success.   Dwayne took out Doo and Yadi to hunt some more and came back with a few more pheasants and quail.
