Tim and Dave w/ Chris, Seth and Nitro Pheasant and Quail Hunt

Chris Lewis came out with his German Shorthair, Nitro to take some friends, Tim Cincotta  and Dave Hartter on a pheasant and quail hunt.  Dave’s son, Seth, came along to take in the action and experience his first bird hunt.  I was able to get some pheasants and a couple quail coveys out in the clubhouse field between rain showers and drizzle.  The warm, rainy and windy day made it a challenging hunt, but Nitro was up for the challenge and found all the birds, but one quail.

Kevin, Penny and Ina on a Drizzlly Quail Hunt

Kevin Diekroeger came out with his two buddies Ina and Penny for an early season quail hunt.  I put out a couple of big coveys in the Clubhouse Field and the Setter and German Wirehair pair found them.  I helped Kevin with the harvest as Karen donned the camera for the hunt.  A light to heavy drizzle muted the rises, but Kevin still had a chance at a slow motion triple.

Last Upland Bird Hunt of the Season w/ Zach Collins

Zach Collins chose the last day of the season to have his first hunt of the season.  High of 48 and cloudy with a bit of wind, not bad for April 15th.  I emptied the bird cages of pheasant, chukar and quail and scattered them throughout the non-burned leftovers of the Clubhouse Field.  Yadi, the yearling Setter, got to go on his first hunt with a client along with Curly.   The seasoned wirehair and the setter pup did a fine a job and after getting through the pheasants, a couple of chukar and a quail covey, it was back to the kennels.  Sol, Mac and Doo got to play clean up and Zach shot well with only one pheasant escaping til next season.

Alan, Randy and Todd Spring Pheasant and Quail Hunt

Alan Feezel came out with his buddies, Randy Gray and Todd Bohlman on a beautiful spring day for a pheasant and quail hunt.  We tried to hide from the wind on the Clubhouse Field, but the pheasants always seemed to have a head start, making the hunting tough for Sol and the shooters.  They found most of the pheasants and a couple of quail coveys, before retiring Sol for Curly, Doo and Mac.  The trio of dogs found the quail singles spread throughout the field and fencerows along with a couple of pheasants and the hunters took care of business and harvested nearly all their birds.

Dan and Richie w/ Ava and Millie Training and Quail Hunt

Dan Crunk came out with his seasoned English Pointer, Millie, and Richie Green brought his green English Setter, Ava, for some dog training and quail hunting.  First, Richie did some backing work with Ava as well as shooting over her and letting her retrieve.  She was excited about everything and loved carrying the bird.  Then I scattered some quail around the clubhouse field for Millie and Ava to find together.  Dan did most of the shooting with Richie working Ava on the lead .  I think Dan was a perfect 8 for 8 on the quail, check out the video footage.

Mark, Rich, Tim, Andy, David and Daniel Pheasant and Quail Hunt

Mark Reagan set up a pheasant and quail hunt for his brother, Rich and friends Andy Sugg, Tim Kern, and David Dintleman. David brought his son, Daniel, for his first bird hunt. The Clubhouse and Pasture fields were stocked with pheasants and coveys of quail. Curly got first crack at the birds and worked through the pheasants and some of the quail coveys. Mac and Doo got the remaining quail coveys and some clean up from the first half of the hunt. The pheasants were up and running around on a beautiful spring day making a challenge for the dogs and the hunters. The quail had some nice covey rises with some singles to continue the hunt. Daniel made a nice shot on a quail single to knock down his first bird. Great day in the field with only a few birds escaping into the spring cover.

Brad Bickhaus and Friends Upland Bird Hunt and Fish Fry

Brad Bickhaus got some friends together for an upland bird hunt.  Terry Knebel and his German Shorthair, Sadie, got to guide Brad, Dave Gerber and Tom Hartman over at the Cabin Field.  They had a good time, finding an extra rooster pheasant and chasing a lot of quail in to the timber, making for some interesting shooting.  Greg Ireland brought his dog, Daisy, to guide Dave Mueggenburg, John Adcock, and Jim and Brady Cox for a hunt at the Tinkerfarm Field.  Daisy did her usual awesome job and they came back with all but a couple of birds.  Gary Marco and his English Pointer, Babe, got to hunt the Clubhouse Field with Tom Lavelle, Andy Tosh and Jason Govreau.  Babe did a nice job finding all the birds and hunters, especially Tom, showed surgical expertise with their shotguns.  After the hunt, they broke out the fish fryer and all shared crappie, hush puppies, cole slaw, ect.  Weather was a little too nice for hunting but awesome to enjoy the meal outside in the sun.
