Setter Pup, Tough, Up for Auction

This setter pup, Tough, will be going home with the highest bidder next Saturday.  The Cumberland Trail Chapter of the Quail and Upland Game Alliance, QUGA, banquet on September 29th at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

Tough is a well-bred English Setter,  the dam is Homestead B (Ava’s daughter) and Roundabout. Tough is all white with a bit of orange on his head and ears.  He will be about 20 weeks old at auction.  Homestead B is the daughter of Ava, who has High-Test Skyhawk in her lineage.  Roundabout is a direct descendant of Shadow Oak Bo.

Tough was lucky enough to travel to North Dakota this summer and got some good experiences out west.  Since he has been back, Travis Devall has continued his training and it looks like he is coming along nicely.  Should be able to be in the field well before the season is half way through.

Jeff Marshall sold his litter mates for $600.   You have an extraordinary chance of getting an excellent hunting dog at a discounted price at the banquet.

Terry, Jack and Roger, Pheasant and Quail Hunt

Terry Knebel set up a hunt for his buddies, Jack Levy and Roger Well. Terry brought out his experienced shorthair, Sadie and Roger his young lab, Timber to find some pheasant and quail covey in the Clubhouse Field. Always a lot of fun with Terry in the field, some nice dog work and some quality wingshooting as these three enjoy their last upland hunt of the season.

John and Burl, Quail Hunt

John Cavaletto came out with his pointer Burl to hunt some quail in the Clubhouse Field. I threw out a couple handfuls of quail off the tower in the field. The birds scatter around the field in random fashion and settle into their own spot of cover. Burl worked the field well, finding and pointing almost all the quail and John knocking them all down.

Jacob and Matt, Upland Bird Hunt

Jacob Doedtman and Matt Harder came out for an upland bird hunt toward the end of last season. I got the honors to guide them around the Clubhouse Field. I brought out Sol and Ava to find the pheasant, chukar and quail. The pheasants were up and running, but the quail and chukar held tight for some good rises. Hildy and Mac came out to help find the birds that escaped on our first pass through the fields. I hope Jacob and Matt had as much fun as I did guiding them.
