Brad and Friends, Fish Fry Upland Bird Hunt

Brad Bickhaus had his annual fish fry/upland bird hunt on a beautiful February Saturday.  I spread his groups around the Cabin and Tinkerfarm Fields.  They started early to avoid the heat of th day with Steve Sanders guiding Brad’s group.  Trevor brought out is young springer, Paisley, to guide his own group, while Gary Marco brought his dogs to guide the third group.  Tom Lavelle even brought his shorthair, Jager, to get in on the fun and give Gary a few laughs.  Always a fun day in the field and clubhouse.

Larry, Nathan and Jimmy w/Ike and King, Quail Hunt

Larry Jones came out with son, Nathan and buddy, Jimmy Robinson to hunt some quail.   I set out three nice coveys around the Clubhouse Field and they sent Ike and King out to find them.  Larry was shooting early and often and nailed a double on two of the rises.  The birds spread out into the west fencerow and pasture, leading to some decent timber shooting.

Bryce and Ryan, Pheasant Hunt

Bryce Currie came out with his young Duck Toller, Cooper and buddy, Ryan Karcher to hunt some pheasant.  The nice weather and high winds got the pheasants up and moving in the East Bottom milo and prairie strips.  Cooper hunted hard and flushed the birds into a strong west  wind that blasted a few of the birds to safety.

Bill, Bruce and John, Windy Pheasant Hunt

Bill and John Segelhorst along with Bruce Hill came out for a pheasant hunt.   I set some pheasant out in the Clubhouse Field on a warm and windy afternoon, and I think as soon as I set them, they were up and running.  They hunted hard, took some long shots and had a fun hunt and came back with some birds on a tough day to hunt pheasant.

Kevin, Bob and Ina, Quail Hunt

Kevin Diekroeger and Bob Rainey came down for an overnight quail hunt. Kevin brought out his wirehair, Ina, to do the hunting all by herself, because his setter, Penny was recovering from surgery.   I set out some quail coveys around the old Tinkerfarm pond and Ina found them all.  Some nice rises and then some decent timber shooting only left a few for the next day.  After some fried chicken, a little sleep, and some egg sandwiches for breakfast, the trio headed back to the Tinkerfarm after more quail.  Overall on the hunt they got to take 51 of their 60 birds home, fun times.

Mark and Chris, Chukar and Quail Hunt

Mark and Chris Perkowski found the last snowy day of the season to come out for a quail and chukar hunt.  I set some birds out in the Clubhouse field and they got their two labs, Di and Roy out to find them.  Lots of action, they had a lot of  fun chasing the birds around the field and only left a couple of quail for seed.
