This setter pup, Tough, will be going home with the highest bidder next Saturday. The Cumberland Trail Chapter of the Quail and Upland Game Alliance, QUGA, banquet on September 29th at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
Tough is a well-bred English Setter, the dam is Homestead B (Ava’s daughter) and Roundabout. Tough is all white with a bit of orange on his head and ears. He will be about 20 weeks old at auction. Homestead B is the daughter of Ava, who has High-Test Skyhawk in her lineage. Roundabout is a direct descendant of Shadow Oak Bo.
Tough was lucky enough to travel to North Dakota this summer and got some good experiences out west. Since he has been back, Travis Devall has continued his training and it looks like he is coming along nicely. Should be able to be in the field well before the season is half way through.
Jeff Marshall sold his litter mates for $600. You have an extraordinary chance of getting an excellent hunting dog at a discounted price at the banquet.
Kevin Diekroeger and I went out with his two pups, Ina and Penny, for one last hunt of the season. I broke out my Citori for the last time of the season and we had a bunch of fun in the Clubhouse Field chasing a mix of quail, pheasant and chukar. Some good dog work and some mediocre shooting, but a enjoyable hunt.
Jimmy Robinson set up a hunt for his son-in-law Curtis and granddaughters. I set out a couple pheasant and some quail coveys for the four could hunt along with Jimmy’s pair of droppers, Zeke and Pete. The girls and the guys carrying the guns as well as the dogs all had a great time in the field.
Larry Jones and Jimmy Robinson both brought out their own pair of dogs, Ike and King for Larry and Zeke and Pete for Jimmy. I set out half of their quail in doubles for each brace of dogs around the Clubhouse Field. Some good work and really nice double by Larry in this video.
Terry Knebel set up a hunt for his buddies, Jack Levy and Roger Well. Terry brought out his experienced shorthair, Sadie and Roger his young lab, Timber to find some pheasant and quail covey in the Clubhouse Field. Always a lot of fun with Terry in the field, some nice dog work and some quality wingshooting as these three enjoy their last upland hunt of the season.
John Cavaletto came out with his pointer Burl to hunt some quail in the Clubhouse Field. I threw out a couple handfuls of quail off the tower in the field. The birds scatter around the field in random fashion and settle into their own spot of cover. Burl worked the field well, finding and pointing almost all the quail and John knocking them all down.
Chelsi Devall set up an upland bird hunt with her beau, Brandon Cox and father, Travis. I set out some pheasant, chukar and quail in the Clubhouse Field for Sadie, Zip and Patches to find. Great hunt, even with a little liquid, they came back with all their birds plus four extra pheasants left over from the youth hunt the day before.
