Shaun, Dustin and Cody Lance came out for an upland bird hunt along with Brian and Jackson Clark. The took out Skeeter and Remmington to find the chukar, pheasant and quail coveys scattered around the Clubhouse Field. Nice hunt, getting all their big birds and leaving just a few quail. After Shaun and I went out with his young setter Lucy to shoot a few birds over her as she progresses with her training.
Dan Butler put together an all day upland bird hunt for his brother Joe, Mike Severe, Joe Hodge and Doug Carlson. Travis Devall got the morning duties of guiding in the Clubhouse Field. Even with the wet weather the birds flew nicely out of the sparse late spring cover. A bit of lunch and then over to the Cabin Field for the afternoon with Jeff Powell and his pups. Great way to end the season on a nice hunt.
Tony Koberlein and Eric Eickmeier came out to hunt some pheasant,, chukar and quail. Jeff Powell brought out his dogs find the birds over at the North Tinkerfarm Field. Tony’s granddaughter, Matison had a great time going along for a nice bird hunt.
Willie Bone set up a hunt for his buddies Jordan Golden and Chad Wade. Jeff Powell guided the hunt on the North Tinkerfarm Field. Willie and company didn’t give the pheasants much chance, but still a couple got away.
Bobby and Nathan Touchette set up a pheasant and chukar hunt for their friends, Tom, Terry and Dennis Asher. Jeff Powell did the guiding for the big birds over at the milo and prairie strips over at the North Tinkerfarm Field. The fathers and sons had a great day in the field and harvested a pile of birds for dinner.
Tough is a well-bred English Setter, the dam is Homestead B (Ava’s daughter) and Roundabout. Tough is all white with a bit of orange on his head and ears. He will be about 20 weeks old at auction. Homestead B is the daughter of Ava, who has High-Test Skyhawk in her lineage. Roundabout is a direct descendant of Shadow Oak Bo.
Tough was lucky enough to travel to North Dakota this summer and got some good experiences out west. Since he has been back, Travis Devall has continued his training and it looks like he is coming along nicely. Should be able to be in the field well before the season is half way through.
Jeff Marshall sold his litter mates for $600. You have an extraordinary chance of getting an excellent hunting dog at a discounted price at the banquet.
Kevin Diekroeger and I went out with his two pups, Ina and Penny, for one last hunt of the season. I broke out my Citori for the last time of the season and we had a bunch of fun in the Clubhouse Field chasing a mix of quail, pheasant and chukar. Some good dog work and some mediocre shooting, but a enjoyable hunt.
Jimmy Robinson set up a hunt for his son-in-law Curtis and granddaughters. I set out a couple pheasant and some quail coveys for the four could hunt along with Jimmy’s pair of droppers, Zeke and Pete. The girls and the guys carrying the guns as well as the dogs all had a great time in the field.
Larry Jones and Jimmy Robinson both brought out their own pair of dogs, Ike and King for Larry and Zeke and Pete for Jimmy. I set out half of their quail in doubles for each brace of dogs around the Clubhouse Field. Some good work and really nice double by Larry in this video.
Terry Knebel set up a hunt for his buddies, Jack Levy and Roger Well. Terry brought out his experienced shorthair, Sadie and Roger his young lab, Timber to find some pheasant and quail covey in the Clubhouse Field. Always a lot of fun with Terry in the field, some nice dog work and some quality wingshooting as these three enjoy their last upland hunt of the season.
