George Green came out to hunt some quail. I set out a couple of nice sized coveys around the Clubhouse and East Bottom Fields. Ava and Hildy found the first covey near Heaven’s Half Acre, George knocked down a bird on the rise and we headed into timbered lot and fencerows to pick up the singles. The dogs found the second covey in the East Bottom and George got a few on the rise and then picked up the rest from the prairie strips.

Dwayne Ritchey got some friends together for a Continental Pheasant Shoot. I added a few more shooters and then threw out a bunch of birds on a drizzly, cool Sunday morning. The shooters and retrieving dogs did a nice job, knocking down and picking up around 100 pheasant. After some pulled pork and baked beans we headed back to the fencerows and fields and picked up some of the ones that got away.

Tim Ridderbos set up a pheasant hunt for his dad, Ron and lab, Bella. Bella is still new to the hunting game so Steve Sanders brought out some pointers to help. Steves’ dogs found the pheasant in the South Tinkerfarm Field and Bella had fun with the flush and the downed birds.

Wes Stueber came out with his two brittanys to hunt some quail. I set out some singles and a double around the South Tinkerfarm Field. Wes and the dogs got many points at the birds that were already starting to covey up on the bright afternoon.

Ray Rudy and Willie Bone traveled from Missouri to hunt some pheasant, chukar and quail. I set out some pheasants in the Clubhouse Field and some quail coveys and chukars in the East Bottom Field for Ava and Hildy to find. The dogs found all their birds and Willie and Ray did a nice job on the harvest.

Shaun, Dustin and Kodde Lance came out with their friend Brian Clark to hunt some pheasant and chukar in the Clubhouse Field. Skeeter and Remington had their work cut out for them on the nice, sunny, breezy day, chasing around the pheasant that got up and moving. I caught a few rises with some nice shots.

Howard and Howie Heerdt came over from Southern Indiana with Gary Gilbert for an upland bird hunt. I set out some pheasant, quail and chukar around the Cabin Field edges in an attempt to hide from a strong north west wind. Travis Devall brought out his trio of dogs to do the guiding. This was Howie’s first hunt and he knocked down the the first rooster that flushed right at the start. They worked around the timber edge busting the coveys and chukar pairs, even having to chase and shoot a few through the woods.

Greg Ireland brought out his buddy Mike Yociss and Daisy to hunt some pheasant and quail. They picked a beautiful but cold morning, starting out below 20. The birds held well in the Clubhouse and East Bottom Fields, giving Mike and Greg plenty of opportunities. They took advantage of most coming back with most of their birds.

John Cavaletto came out with his buddies, Larry Ackerman and Harland Scheibal for a quail hunt. John brought Burl, Larry brought Mccallister and Harland came with Dot, a pointer, german shorthair and brittany respectively. I set out some mini-coveys around the Clubhouse Field and East Bottom Field. The dogs found all the birds and the were flying well, so they had a nice hunt.

Larry Jones and Jim Robinson came out to work their dogs on some quail. First out of the box were, Larry’s Ike and King to find the birds in the East Bottom Field. The Jim got his two young droppers, Pete and Zeke, out to work some quail doubles. Nice work by the dogs, but when I was asked to help knock some down, I was useless, safety issues and slow on the draw. Then they got all four out to clean up the field.
