Tim and Ron Ridderbos came out for a pheasant and chukar hunt. Travis Devall got out his two setters, Patches and Zip, to find the big birds in the Clubhouse Field. Beautiful day to be in the field, some nice dog work and getting all your birds, made for one great hunt.
Colton Wilkins came up with a couple of buddies, Tyler Butts and Cole Armstrong to hunt some pheasant and chukar. He brought along his two shorthair, Preacher and setter, Bama to find the birds in the Pasture and Clubhouse Fields. Great hunt, lots of birds and shooting and they didn’t leave any in the field.
Chris Doedtman brought out his two boys, Jacob and Beau for a pheasant and chukar hunt. Jeff Powell guided the hunt with his setters, brittanys and cocker spaniel. They picked a windy day, but still had lots of action and shots at the Cabin Field.
Ben and Zach Rasche set up an upland bird hunt for their buddies, Tyler Bastert and Chris Geary. They started out hunting a few pheasant and a bunch of quail around the Clubhouse Field along with Travis Devall and his pair of setters. The quail coveys dissolved fairly quickly into singles. After a break I added some more chukar and pheasant to go along with quail singles left over. Toward the end I brought out a few setters to help with the hunt and the hunters came back with a pile of birds.
Nathan Mellendorf came out with his dad, Curt and his buddy Tanner Kirby and his dad, Fariss for an upland bird hunt. Travis Devall came out with his setters and pointer to do the guiding on the quail, pheasant and chukar spread around the Clubhouse Field. Lots of points, birds and shooting, I even brought out Ava and Doo to help clean up a bit at the end of the day.
Brett and Leann Reed set up a pheasant hunt for a bunch of friends. Nine shooters is a little too much for one field so I sent Bob Dasenbrock with Libby over to the Tinkerfarm to hunt the birds in the milo strips and prairie edges. Greg Ireland and Daisy guided the other group down in the East Bottom. The sunny day and brisk wind had the birds running and not playing fair, but the hunters still came back with a good share.
Roy Evans came out to hunt some quail, pheasant and chukar. Colton Wilkins brought his two pups, Preacher and Bama to find the birds in the Cabin Field. Lots of action, good dog work and shooting for a great morning in the field.
Bob Harling came down from Chicago to meet his brother, John and buddy Rich Delmotte for an overnight upland bird hunt. The first afternoon Steve Sanders took them on a pheasant and chukar hunt. They worked the big birds over the Clubhouse Field and down into the East Bottom Field. Great hunt, they got them plus an extra chukar. I smoked some chickens for dinner and woke them up with some biscuits and gravy. The next morning they hunted all quail with Travis Devall over at the Tinkerfarm Field. They didn’t get them all but they had some tough shooting in the timber and fencerows around the old pond bed.
Gary and Susan McMillin came out for a pheasant hunt with their two solid liver shorthairs, Gabby and Gizmo. This was a warm up hunt for the big one to come the next week, and the dogs did a nice job. Gary and the pups got most of the pheasants and picked up a spare quail.
John Cavaletto came out with his friend Russ Kimmons and his pointer Burl for a quail hunt. I set some quail coveys around the Cabin Field and Burl found them. They knocked some down on the rise and chased the singles through the timber. Nice work by Burl and some good shooting to back him up.
