Puppies, puppies, puppies and more puppies

My friend and world class dog trainer, Jeff Marshall, has had a busy summer and a pile of English Setter and English Pointer puppies available.   All of these dogs come from great hunting stock and are bred to have the desire, smarts and nose that awesome bird dogs require.  Give Jeff Marshall a call 217-370-6176.

The first litter is out of Ava, a dog I had in my kennel last season and Brad Hire’s stud, Buck.  They will be 7 weeks old and ready to go on Monday, August 1st.  There are 4 females still available in the litter, 1 orange and white and the remainder tri-colored.  The sire is out of a line with Shadow Oak Bo and Grid Iron

The other Setter litter is out of Jeff’s female B, which won the Open Derby Dog of the Year and sired by Buck.  There are 5 females and 4 males, with 4 orange and white, and 5 tri-colored.   Both parents are great hunters, this litter will be ready on August 23.

Jeff’s first pointer litter is out of Jim McNutt’s female Homestead Jill and sired by Bad River.  He has one orange and white female, one liver and white female and three orange and white males ready now.  They will be 8 weeks old on August 1.   Bad River has some nice lineage with Up Close, Sinbad and bunch of Elhew blood in past generations.

The second pointer litter was just whelped on July 27, with the breeding of Jeff’s young female Georgia and bred with Bad River.  I will let you know and get some more pics as the litter matures.

These puppies are priced right too.  Great deal for the breeding behind these dogs, $550 for setters and $450 for pointer pups.  Give Jeff Marshall a call 217-370-6176.

Jeff will also have started puppies available this winter, just in time for the second half of the game preserve season.

John and Elsie, Quail Hunt

John McIntosh came out for the last day of the season with his elder setter, Elsie, for a quail hunt.  Eighty degrees and sunny, not ideal for dog work or bird flight, Elsie still had some nice finds and points.  John knocked a few down with his 16 gauge, LC Smith, double barrell for an enjoyable finish to a great upland bird season.

Joe and Bill, Pheasant Hunt

My cousin, Joe Blythe, came out to hunt some pheasants on a beautiful, warm spring afternoon.  Not ideal pheasant hunting conditions, but there was not much wind and the birds behaved fairly well.  We started out chasing some down the fencerow  and then out into the Clubhouse Field to find the rest.   One hen disappeared into the Pasture Field, hopefully to find some cover and a rooster.

Dwayne and Bill, Pheasant Hunt

Dwayne Ritchey came out for a late afternoon pheasant hunt.  I set out some birds in the unburnt half of the Clubhouse Field and got out Curly and Doo to find the birds.  We found them all plus a couple extras running around the field.  Only let one get away flying off into the warm, spring evening.

Gary and Joe, w/ Gabby and Gizmo, Pheasant Hunt

Gary McMillin came out with his buddy Joe Smith and his two shorthairs, Gabby and Gizmo for a pheasant hunt.  I put out some pheasants in the Clubhouse Field on a cold, but gorgeous April morning.  The pair of dogs did a nice job finding and pointing the birds , while Joe and Gary did their part, teaming up on the birds to down them.  Awesome April pheasant hunt.

Mushroom Fest 2016

Mushroom Fest 2016 will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 6 pm at the Sonnemann Cabin, one mile south of the Sandy Run Clubhouse.  Come and enjoy some mushrooms, crawfish, corn, tators, chicken, fish and more.  Bring and chair, what ever you like to drink, a couple of shrooms and a dish if you want.  Always a great party, chance to meet other hunters and enjoy some awesome food.
