Eric, Keith, Jordan and Chris, Upland Bird Hunt

Eric and Jordan Ogden came out with their friends, Keith and Chris Morehead for an upland bird hunt.  I filled the Clubhouse field and some more with pheasant, chukar and quail and got Mac and Sol to find them.  They found most of the birds and after a bit,  I refilled the field with more targets and got Curly and Doo out to find and point them.  Another trip through the field with plenty of points and opportunities for more birds.  Really enjoyable morning in the field.

Kevin and Tommy, Southern Illinois Grouse Hunt

Kevin and Tommy Diekroeger chose a challenge for an afternoon hunt  with their English Setter, German Wire Hair and Brittany Spaniel.  They chose a Southern Illinois Grouse Hunt, so I spread 10 chukar throughout the woods (especially the dense parts) to simulate grouse hunting in the northern woods and swamps.   Started out a little rough,  having to find a couple birds twice, but then they started hitting them on the first rise.  Great fun in the woods and they came back with 9 chukar.

Frank, Josh, Brian and Brandon, Upland Bird Hunt

Frank Tellefesen set up an upland bird hunt for his son, Josh and friends, Brian Gibson and Brian Goodiel. Steve Sanders brought out his pointers to guide the hunt and searched for the quail, pheasant and chukar in the Clubhouse Field. Vince, a pointer got injured, so Doo, my English Setter came in to help Rose with the hunt. A little damp, but a pleasant day in the field seeing Brian down his first pheasant.

Seth, Rod and Rocky, Pheasant Hunt

Rod Tolliver came out with his son, Seth and German Shorthair, Rocky for a wet pheasant hunt.  We found a field that wasn’t flooded and I set out some pheasants.  Rocky dealt with sometimes driving rain and swirling wind and found all the pheasants in the Clubhouse Field.  Even with the nasty weather Seth and Rod shared a fun morning with their puppy, hunting in the rain.

Arlon, Lloyd, Rylee and Hayden, w/ Cooper, Upland Bird Hunt

Arlon Long set up an upland bird hunt for his son, Lloyd, daughter, Rylee and friend Hayden Faulkner.  Arlon brought along his German Shorthaired Pointer, Cooper, to find the pheasant, quail and chukar I stashed all around the Clubhouse Field.  This was Hayden’s first upland bird hunt and knocked down the first pheasant of the hunt and I think he also scored on a chukar and quail.  Cooper did a nice job, finding all the birds and getting a chance to retrieve most of them.

Tyson, Travis and Steve, w/ Rose, Vince and Stella, Quail and Chukar Hunt

Steve Sanders found a break in the rain to put on a quail and chukar hunt for his son, Travis and grandson, Tyson.   Steve brought out his pointer Rose along with a pointer, Vince and a lab, Stella, which may belong to Travis or Steve, ownership under discussion.  Rose and Vince did a fine job finding the quail coveys and chukar I stocked in the Clubhouse Field, while Stella jumped in behind to flush and retrieve.   In one rise, Tyson crushes a chukar that somehow keeps flying and requires a second shot to bring it down.  Great family day in the field.

Chuck and Mike, w/ Lady and King, Quail Hunt

Mike and Chuck Bowles got together to work Mike’s two English Setters, King and Lady on some quail.  I placed some quail coveys in the East Bottom Field and the setters went to work pointing the coveys and singles.  They got the dogs some good work finding the singles scattered in the prairie strips and fencerows around the edge of the field.

Glay, Eric, Todd, Trenton, Jensen and Dakota, Upland Bird Hunt

Glay and Dakota McMillen came out with their friends, Todd and Jensen Bailey  and Eric and Trenton Rohrback for an upland hunt.  They brought along a mix of  four retreivers, Chester, Cy, Buddy and Jack.  The milo strips in the Tinkerfarmm Field are a great place to hunt flushing dogs so I filled them up with pheasant, quail and chukar.  They had a great time knocking down most of the pheasant and chukar but letting a few quail get to the timber and fencerows that surround the field.  After a nice long hunt  and tiring out 4 flushers, Chester a little early, they came back with almost all their birds.
