Kevin, Daniel, Stacy, Nathan and Bruce Pheasant Hunt

Kevin Hall came out for a pheasant hunt with his friends and family, Daniel Childress, Nathan Storm, and Stacy and Bruce Boaz.   Weather was about perfect, near 30, light wind and about 4 inches of snow.   What birds didn’t hold tight, Curly, Mac and Doo were able to track down.  They emptied the Clubhouse Field of pheasants with a perfect 15 for 15.

Ted, Nate, Jarrod and Three Wallys Upland Bird Hunt

Ted McGee set up a bird hunt for his buddies Nate Burgess, Jarrod Good and  three generations of Wally Good.  They picked a mix of quail, pheasant and a couple of chukars.  Ted’s English Setter Jenny started out the hunt and then Greg Ireland along with Daisy did the guiding.  Ted’s English Pointer pup Ace came along to learn from Daisy.  Some really nice covey and pheasant rises in this video.  Ted provided some chili and the group enjoyed reviewing their hunt in the clubhouse afterward.

Kevin and Bob with Ina and Penny Quail Hunt

Kevin Diekroeger invited Bob Rainey to join him and Ina and Penny for a two day quail hunt.  They donned their briar chaps and headed to the Tinkerfarm Field in search of coveys of quail.  The snow had the birds holding tight leading to some great covey rises, hard to tell this action from the real wild thing.   We had a nice meal and good company around the fireplace in the evening, homemade biscuits and gravy before the next morning hunt and back to the Tinkerfarm for more quail action.

2014 Youth Pheasant Hunt

Sandy Run Hunt Co. and the Cumberland Chapter of the Quail and Upland Game Alliance held their annual Youth Pheasant Hunt on January 25th.  Thirty young hunters got a chance to hunt for a couple of pheasant on a cold, blustery day.  With wind gusts over 30mph the pheasants did not cooperate for everyone, but most hunters got an opportunity if not a pheasant or two to take home.  There was plenty of clay target shooting, with over 500 targets shot at over the frozen ponds.   Congratulations to Chase Horn, he won the drawing for a pheasant mount donated by Freedom Taxidermy.

Check out the video below to see all the fun.

Thanks to all the parents and friends who took the time to bring out the kids.  Thanks for letting them have the opportunity to enjoy and learn from a day out in the field.  I appreciate all the time and effort of the guides and their dogs which helped to make each hunters’ experience memorable.

I would also like to thank the Cumberland Chapter of the Quail and Upland Game Alliance for all their help and donations, Midwest Target Co.  Litchfield, for providing the clay pigeons, Buchheit of Greenville for providing some of the prizes, County Market of Vandalia for their donation of hotdogs and buns, Freedom Taxidermy of Vandalia for donating a pheasant mount, Ritchey Painting of Vandalia for their donation of the use of an UTV.

Larry, Mark and Joe Upland Bird Hunt

Larry Kleiner brought out his friends Joe Mioux and Mark Meyer for an afternoon upland bird hunt.  Larry came with his two German Shorthairs, Trigger and Holly, while Joe brought his English Pointer, Ginger.  Some real nice points with all three dogs locked down quail coveys and singles.  Mark got to shoot his first chukar partridge on a double rise with larry knocking down the other.

Don, Tyler, Luke and Ruby Pheasant and Chukar Hunt

Don Cooper came out with his two sons, Tyler and Luke, and chocolate lab, Ruby.  They went after some pheasant and chukar.  Ruby did a good job finding the birds and the boys did great knocking them down.  Don had the shot of the year on a  pair of chukars, slowed the first one down with the first shot and then took both out with the second.  Unfortunately no video proof due to dead camera battery, but both Ruby and I witnessed the shot.
