John Cavaletto set up a quail hunt for his buddies, Larry Ackerman and Harland Scheibal. John brought his pointer, Burl, Larry his German Shorthair, McCallister and Harland his Brittany Spaniel, Chance to find the quail coveys I scattered in the Clubhouse Field. They had some nice rises, but soon the birds got spread around the large prairie field and fencerows. Some really nice dog work, pointing and backing, on a fun day in the field.
John Cavaletto came out with his pointer, Burl while Dan Crunk met him with his own two pointers, Millie and Flirt. I filled the Clubhouse Field with quail and they released the dogs to hunt them down. Some really nice finds, points, backs and retrieves with this hunt, classy dogs. They even picked up a rooster pheasant to top off the action.
Chris Tenllado brought out his two boys, Noah and Dylan for a chukar and pheasant hunt. He also brought his German Shorthair, Joy to do the pointing and his yellow lab, Ellie to do the flushing. I filled the milo strips on the north end of the Tinkerfarm with birds and they had an awesome morning hunt, so good they had to go back to the truck for more shells.
Scott Staehnke set up an upland bird hunt for his friends, Russ Fischer and Troy Depew. I set some pheasant, chukar and quail in the Clubhouse Field and Steve Sanders brought out Rose and Vince to find the birds. After a successful morning hunt, we sat down for lunch and recharge before I restocked the field. Then it was Mac and Sol’s turn to point the birds. A nice afternoon in the field with a bunch of chukar doubles and quail covey rises as well as chasing around some running, rooster pheasants.
John McIntosh came down with Jeff Marshall to run some pointer and setter pups on quail and a couple of spare pheasant and chukar. Georgia and Jenny, the two pointer pups, did a nice job finding and pointing the birds I set out in the Clubhouse Field.
Jim Howard came out of a 50 year hiatus from upland bird hunting to come out for a pheasant hunt. Greg Ireland and Daisy did the guiding and did a nice job finding the birds. Although Jim got off to a slow start, after the second rise, the birds didn’t have a chance.
Don Deters came out with his young English Setter, Odie for some quail training. Odie did a nice job, always on the moving hunting for the birds. When he found them he held until Don got there to flush. Nice work on a tough warm day when the birds wanted to run under the foxtail more than fly.
Max Oertwig brought out his two German Wirehaired Pointers, Ava and Autumn to hunt some quail. I placed some quail doubles in the milo strips at the northend of the Tinkerfarm and Max and his girls set out to point, flush and harvest them. They did a good job, finding more than I set out and coming back with a chukar.
Karolynn Eilers came out with her 15 year old Springer Spaniel, Chipper and her friend Paul Willms for a chukar hunt. I placed some single and double sets of chukar in the milo strips in the Clubhouse Field for Chipper to find and flush. He did a nice job flushing all the birds while the hunters knocked them down.
Dan Crunk and Cletus Roy brought out their pointers to get some work on quail in the Clubhouse Field. Millie, Flirt and Grace were just some of the dogs finding and pointing the birds scattered around. Some really nice points and good dog work all morning long.
