Larry Jones set up a quail hunt for his friends, Mike Beckett and Jimmy Robinson. Larry brought along his new Brittany, King, and Doo and Mac from my kennels helped out too. The quail were tough shooting, flying like rockets toward the treelines and then dipping and dashing through limbs. Mike got a nice shot on a surprise rooster and King got some good work in the bird field.
Larry Jones came out with his son, Nathan and buddy, Jimmy Robinson, along with his two dogs, Bill and King for a quail hunt. I set out some quail coveys around the Clubhouse Field and Bill and King found the first, with the young King getting some nice points on the singles. Bill was not feeling well, so Doo came out to help King finish the hunt. Lots of points all around the field on coveys and singles.
Brad Wood set up a hunt for his buddies, Brad Rodseth and John McIntosh. Brad W. brought his German Wirehair, Cooper, Brad R., his chocolate lab, Copper and John his english setter, Mickey for a pheasant and chukar hunt. Lots of points on the birds all over the Clubhouse Field, including a couple of unplanned quail covey rises. A few got away, but not the chukar that barely slipped through Brad’s fingers, check it out.
Chris Lewis met his buddy Ty Fonte out at Sandy Run to run Chris’ two shorthairs, Nitro and Jette on some quail. I threw a bunch of singles out in the Clubhouse Field. They tracked them all down, plus some, had some nice points and backs, with the young dog, Jette, getting better with each bird.
Scott Staehnke set up an upland bird hunt for his buddies, Brian Westendorf and Chris Kershaw. The Clubhouse Field was already full of birds, but I still added some pheasant, chukar and quail for the hunt. Brian brought along is grandson, Thacker Cripe, to make sure we hunted the birds properly. The dogs from my kennel had as much fun finding and pointing as the hunters did knocking them out of the sky.
Mike, Brian and Brayden Davis set up a pheasant hunt to give Brayden a shot at his first bird. Steve Sanders got to do the guiding, with his pointer Rose and trying out a new pointer Gabby, in the Clubhouse Field. The dogs pointed all the pheasants and just as many quail. Brayden was able to knock down a couple of birds and they got a mix of birds to take home for the table.
Loree Riggs brought out his friend Bob Colton and his German Shorthair, Gabby for a chukar hunt. I set some chukar doubles in the Clubhouse Field and Gabby found them all to give the hunters some nice shooting opportunities. The warm temperatures tired Gabby out so Doo and Mac got to find the scattered birds, giving Loree and Bob some more shots.
Scott Staehnky brought along his fellow Minnesotan, Travis Yerbich to hunt some pheasant and chukar. Steve Sanders brought out his Pointer, Rose and lab, Stella to find and then flush the birds I placed in the Clubhouse Field. They had a great time on a beautiful day chasing the pheasant around the field. Bunch of extra birds are running around and they picked up a spare pheasant and quail.
Ty Leder brought out his young pointer, Zeb, to do some quail hunting work. Zeb found most of the single quail I set out in the East Bottom Field and has some very stylish points.
J.D. Stroud came up with his two sons, Josh and Jeremy, for an upland bird hunt. J.D. hung up his upland hunting a few years back with wild bird hunting a distant memory in Jeremy’s mind and Josh had never downed a game bird. They got right into the swing knocking down some pheasant and chukar, but the quail covey rises were surprising and we had a lot of singles to track down around the Clubhouse and West Bottom Fields. Lots of action in the field with some nice dog work and a bunch of birds to take home.
